Think beyond a generic shelf-life number. Keep the supplier’s instructions alongside your arrival date and intended use.

What this guide covers
Record arrival and condition · Do not turn a general estimate into a guarantee · Plan the next use

Record arrival and condition

Note the arrival date, packaging, visible condition and the supplier’s storage instructions. If something seems wrong, document it and ask the seller rather than using a tasting test to decide safety.

Do not turn a general estimate into a guarantee

MAFF describes cleaning the used area, drying it, wrapping the rhizome and keeping it refrigerated. Treat general guidance as context, not a universal guarantee for every delivery. Follow instructions specific to your product.

Plan the next use

Before storing the remainder, choose one next dish. Keep checking the condition and ask the supplier when in doubt. A use plan helps you remember the ingredient; it does not replace safe food handling.
